About Jake

As a dually licensed attorney and CPA, Jake’s transactional and commercial litigation experience adds value to his clients on a variety of business and legal issues. Jake rejoined WLJ in 2024 after working as Assistant General Counsel and Senior Vice President at a regional bank. In this role, Jake led a group of attorneys that were the legal partners for various areas of the bank including litigation, loan operations, commercial lending, compliance, BSA and fraud, among other areas.

Professional Experience

Jake has represented a broad range of organizations in matters involving banking and finance law, bankruptcy, foreclosures, asset recovery, fraud, lender liability, regulatory compliance, and loan documentation, among others.  His experience includes:

  • Represent and advise banks on daily issues regarding subpoenas, garnishments, regulatory compliance and other issues related to both federal and state law.
  • Represent and advise banks in connection with loan documentation.
  • Represent and advise banks in complex commercial litigation including foreclosures and workout negotiations both before and after litigation is commenced.
  • Represent and advise clients in connection with different stages of tax controversies.
  • Represent and advise clients in the acquisition and sale of businesses.
  • Counsel to a debtor in a subchapter v, chapter 11 case, which resulted in a confirmed plan after a contested confirmation hearing.
  • Counsel to creditors in chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcy cases.
  • Represent and/or advise clients in regards to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, (RESPA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
  • Counsel to buyers and sellers of commercial real estate.
  • Counsel to an Arkansas bank in recovering against a fidelity bond insurance policy on a claim involving fraud of a lending officer.
  • Counsel to an out-of-state financial institution and successfully set aside a multi-million dollar default judgment entered against it.
  • Represent various commercial entities, including shopping centers, in business disputes and evictions related to commercial tenants.
  • WLJ e-Discovery Solutions team member, handling review and production of electronically-stored information (ESI) in complex litigation.

    Jake earned his J.D. from the UALR Bowen School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 2015. While in law school, Jake served as Editor-in-Chief of the UALR Law Review. Jake was the recipient of the prestigious John & Ruth H. Brunson Award, given annually by the Law Review Editorial Board for distinguished service to the Law Review. Jake is now the President of the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Alumni Board, and he is also a board member of the Pulaski County Bar Foundation and the Downtown Little Rock Partnership. Jake is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute.

    Jake is from the beautiful Heber Springs, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas where he studied accounting. True to his background, Jake enjoys spending time on Greers Ferry Lake and calling the Hogs.

    Recognition

    Jake is originally from Heber Springs, Arkansas, where he graduated from Heber Springs High School.  While attending the University of Arkansas, where he earned a degree in Accounting with a minor in Financial Investments, Jake served as President of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
